Is the hadith stating that a person who performs duha prayer will earn the thawab of one hajj and umrah sound?
“If a person, after performing the morning prayer (fajr) in congregation, sits (in the mosque) and is engaged in dhikr until the sun rises, and then performs two rak’ahs of the ishraq prayer after the sun rises, he will attain the thawab of a full nafilah hajj and umrah.” (Tirmidhi)
- Is the hadith above sound?
- If yes, what are the conditions for practicing it?

Dear Brother / Sister,
Anas b. Malik (ra) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
“If a person performs the morning prayer (fajr) in congregation and then sits until the sun rises and remembers Allah (makes dhikr), and then prays two rak’ahs (after the time of karahah ends), he will be given the thawab of a complete hajj and umrah.” Anas (ra) said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “The reward of a full (nafilah) hajj and umrah”. He repeated it three times. [al-Mundhiri, at-Targhib wat-Tarhib (Transl), 1, 434, Hadith no: 1]
Tirmidhi narrates the same hadith as follows:
It was narrated from Anas b. Malik that he said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
“If a person performs the morning prayer (fajr) in congregation and then sits until the sun rises and remembers Allah (makes dhikr), and then prays two rak’ahs (after the time of karahah ends), he will gain the thawab of a complete hajj and umrah.” Anas (ra) said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “The reward of a full (nafilah) hajj and umrah”. (Tirmidhi, Abwabus-Salat, 412, hadith no: 586)
Tirmidhi states that this hadith is hasan gharib. (ibid)
Hasan means an acceptable hadith used as evidence in religious issues.
Hasan-gharib, on the other hand, means a hadith that has been narrated by a single narrator and has reached the level of hasan. Accordingly, the hadith in question is hasan li-dhatihi; it does not need to be narrated from other narrators to be hasan. (see TDV Islamic Encyclopedia, Hasan md.)
