Can We Prove There Is Only One God Through Logic, Reason, and Observation Without Using Revelation?

The Details of the Question

Can you prove that there is only one God by using logic, reason, observation of the universe, scientific evidence, and philosophical arguments without relying on any revelation? For example, can the fact that the universe is governed by the same fundamental laws everywhere, that planets, stars, and galaxies form and operate according to the same physical principles, that living organisms share common biological systems (such as DNA, cells, and similar survival mechanisms), and that many creatures possess the same fundamental features (such as eyes for seeing, ears for hearing, and organs serving similar functions) point to a single intelligent author rather than multiple independent creators? Can this universal unity and consistency logically establish one Creator? After establishing God's existence and oneness through reason alone, can you then explain why polytheism fails logically and philosophically, and finally examine how revelation confirms and expands upon that conclusion?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

It can be proven but the word “proof” is problematic here, because proof involves identification and framing. God, on the other hand, is not a being that can be identified or framed.

The rules and axioms of logic (for example, everything has a cause, and the chain of causes cannot go on forever; it must stop somewhere, and that point is God himself). This axiom is both a logical axiom and Leibniz’s argument for the existence of God.

Furthermore, a simple observation allows reason to grasp the creator of order from the order itself, which in the philosophy of religion is called the argument of purpose and order.

Similarly, the cosmological argument, just like the argument from purpose and order, is both a phenomenological and a revelation-based argument.

In short, the axioms of logic -natural observation- rational inferences, and revelation based on them clearly declare that God must be ONE and only ONE.
