Will all people including prophets suffer from torture in the Gathering Place?
- It is stated in Imam Ghazali’s book called "Dhikr al-Mawt wa ma Ba’dahu" that the torture in the Gathering Place will be severe. Will everybody suffer from torture in the Gathering Place?
- It is stated that prophets will also be in that state.
Dear Brother / Sister,
Torture in the Gathering Place will be severe. Everybody will be tortured based on the degree of their sins there. However, prophets and righteous people will not be tortured in the Gathering Place. They will be protected form torture under the shade of the Throne.
“Allah will give shade, to seven, on the Day when there will be no shade but His: a just ruler, a youth who has been brought up in the worship of Allah (i.e. worships Allah sincerely from childhood), a man whose heart is attached to the mosques (i.e. to pray the compulsory prayers in the mosque in congregation), two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake and they meet and part in Allah's cause only, a man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for illicit intercourse with her and says: ‘I am afraid of Allah’, a man who gives charitable gifts so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity), and a person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes are then flooded with tears.” (Bukhari, Adhan, 36; Muslim, Zakah, 91; Tirmidhi, Zuhd, 53)
Each of the things mentioned above is really important in terms of human will; some of them are really hard to do while others are nets that tackle the spirit seriously. Even if man is saved from some of these nets, he can be tripped by the others. However, getting rid of these mortal traps that can be overcome only by Allah’s protection and help, and fulfilling these hard responsibilities that tax man’s power and even transgress it can be possible by using one’s will properly, which is regarded as the strongest and most acceptable means of attracting that help and protection, and by having a close relationship with Allah.
The hadith of the Prophet (pbuh) mentioned above presents us with a group of people with conscience that had been sought in utopias but that had never been found and encourages us and fills our hearts with enthusiasm to catch up with them by showing us a cross-section from the group of blessed people who always existed with their will and showed their power in their connection with Allah.
Yes. On that day when the sun will replace the clouds and scorch everywhere, brains will boil and people will be drowned in sweat up to their necks, everything will be against man, there will not and cannot be any shade except the protection and help of God Almighty. It is not important whether this shade is the shade of the Throne or something else; what matters is that the system that we know will change and the earth and the sky will be different.
It is definite that nobody will be able to support anybody and that protections and favoritism will be of no good. Who can protect anybody on that day, when voices are unheard, people are in pain up their throats, people feel dizzy and eyes cannot look straight?
There is only one shelter on that day: It is the shade of Allah’s protection; and the people who will benefit from that shade are as follows:
1) A just leader and ruler who is conscious of his responsibility in the world and who represents the truth, justice and straightforwardness by observing the things entrusted to him.
2) A young man who devotes himself to the worship of God Almighty in a period when lust is at its peak despite his bodily and carnal desires.
3) A person who regularly goes to mosque with the desire and joy of servitude leaving his bodily desires behind.
4) People who love one another for Allah, who come together and leave for Allah, and whose only aim is consent and love of God Almighty.
5) A person who continues his life within the bands of “makhafatullah (fear of Allah)” and “mahabatullah (love of Allah)”, who is very sensitive about protecting his chastity and innocence, who is resistant against the carnal desires of his soul and who fights against the bad suggestions of the soul with the idea of “I fear Allah”.
6) A sincere and generous person who gives his money, which he earns by working hard and saves by avoiding wastefulness, to the poor for the sake of Allah as a sign his loyalty to Allah and who does not want anybody else to know that he gives his money away to the poor, by trying to hide what he gives with his right hand from his left hand.
7) A person who meditates and contemplates when he is alone, who sheds tears while expressing the feelings of his heart, who always takes his willpower from Allah and who rejects and drives away the bad desires of his soul with this willpower, which is like a jetty.
Yes, as it is also expressed in other hadiths that a judge who gives decrees based on justice will be seated on the pulpits made of light in the hereafter and enjoy the treats by God Almighty (Muslim, Imarah, 18; Nasai, Qudat, 1; Musnad, II/159), a young person who does not act like a young person will be rewarded by the consent of God Almighty, a person who spends his life between the mosque and his home- workplace will receive divine protection, the people who see the universe as “a cradle of brotherhood” and love and be loved for Allah will be rewarded by divine love in the hereafter, a person who spends his life by fearing and loving Allah will be free of fears in the hereafter, a person who gives alms as his sign of loyalty will receive unimaginable rewards form the Most Loyal One, a person of feelings and heart whose outward appearance is meaningful and whose inner realm is deep, who is an example to people with his aspects that he knows and who confides to his friend with tears will overcome all obstacles; along with showing rewards in the hereafter, the ideal community and a perfect nation is displayed by such people; thus, the principles leading to this community are shown to people.
- Should we repeat again that by expressing such a deep content that can be explained by volumes of books in a few lines means to explain an ocean by one drop?
