Why is it necessary to thank due to the fact that water was sent down in a way that man could use?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

Thanking is the gladness felt and gratitude expressed in the face of favors and blessings. From this point of view, the place of water in human life is indisputable. No matter how water, which is of vital importance for man, comes, there is no doubt that it is a great blessing and it deserves great thanks.

The creation of water is a blessing; that it is not sent down full of mercury is a separate blessing, that it is fresh, not salty, is yet another blessing. It is necessary to be grateful to Allah, to be pleased with Him and to thank Him in return for such a blessing. The principle that “Man is the slave of kindness (benefits/favors)” shows that his nature and conscience have to thank his Lord all the time for the availability of water.

“Say: "See ye?- If your stream be some morning lost (in the underground earth), who then can supply you with clear-flowing water?” (al-Mulk, 67/30)

Attention is attracted to the importance of the creation and availability of water in the verse above.

“See ye the water which ye drink? Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks??” (al-Waqia, 56/68-70)

It is underlined in the verses above that it is a great blessing necessitating thanks that water was created in a way that is fit to drink. The fact that water, which man always needs, was planned in a way to meet man’s need really shows the existence of an “intelligent design”.

From this point of view, the existence of water shows us the existence of Allah.
