Is it haram to work in alcoholic drinks sector?
Dear Brother / Sister,
The Quran prohibits alcoholic drinks (intoxicants) and states that it is haram:
"O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan´s handwork." (al-Maida, 5/90)
Islam prohibits Muslims from drinking intoxicants as well as buying and selling them. The Prophet (pbuh) states the following:
"The Prophet damned ten people related to alcoholic drinks: The one who presses it, the one who has it pressed, its drinker, its carrier, and the one it is carried to, its server, its seller, the consumption of its price, the one who purchases it and the one it was purchased for." (Tirmdhi, Buyu', 59; Ibn Majah, Ashriba, 6)
After the verse in the chapter of al-Madia prohibiting alcoholic drinks was sent down, the Messenger of Allah stated the following related to it:
"Allah has definitely rendered alcoholic drinks haram. A person who hears this verse and who has alcoholic drinks with him must not drink or sell it." (1)
Those narrations show that it is haram to buy and sell alcoholic drinks.
