Does Allah love me even if I dress immodestly?
Our Lord says in His book let not Satan deceive you with Me. In other words, He says do not Satan make you sin by relying on My forgiveness and mercy. This statement, that is, “Allah loves me even if my head is uncovered” is an example of Satan deceiving people with Allah, and it is actually a very dangerous statement. Allah has declared in His Book whom He loves and whom He does not love. Let us put aside the words of our own soul. Let us ask our Lord the answer to the question, “Does Allah love us even if our heads are uncovered?” Let us see what He says in His Book.
Allah loves those who keep their duty (unto Him). (at-Tawba, verse 4) While our Lord says this, are we aware that we are defying Allah’s command to cover up by uncovering our heads?
Allah loves those whose deeds are good. (Aal-i Imran, verse 148)
Although Allah says, “I love those who seek my consent in all their affairs,” what a great mistake it is for us to think that by uncovering our heads we attain Allah’s consent and become worthy of His love.
Allah loves those who turn unto Him in repentance. (al-Baqara, verse 222) Although Allah says, “I love those who repent after sinning,” are we aware that we are overstepping our bounds by saying that Allah will love us even though we continue to sin and do not repent? We could cite dozens of other verses like them about whom Allah loves. Now let us also look at the verses about whom Allah does not love.
Allah does not love mischief-making. (al-Baqara, verse 205) Well then, if we disobey the command to dress modestly, thereby contributing to the spread of immodesty and mischief-making, and degradation of souls and generations, what will become of us?
Allah does not love those who exceed the limits (transgressors). (al-Maida verse 87) Yes, although our Lord says in the verse that He does not love those who exceed the limits, aren’t we regarded to have exceeded the limits by dressing immodestly despite the command to cover up? As if that were not enough, aren’t we regarded to have committed an even greater sin by claiming that Allah will love us though we need to repent?
Allah does not like every sinning disbeliever. (al-Baqara, verse 276)
In the verse, our Lord declares that He does not love those who persist in disbelief and sin. While it is our duty to repent with the shame of this sin and attain His love, is it not regarded as a slander against Allah to both persist in this sin and claim that Allah loves us in this state?
Yes, perhaps it may be difficult for our souls to cover up; we must say that we are sinners, but we must realize that by saying Allah loves me in this state, we are uttering a statement even greater than this sin, and we must come to our senses, knowing what kind of Being we are speaking about!
