Is a vow of sacrifice regarded to have been fulfilled when the equivalent of the money of the animal to be sacrificed is given to a poor person?
I had offered two vows. Now it is time to fulfill them. Do I have to sacrifice two animals and distribute the meat to the poor or is it permissible to send the equivalent of the money of the sheep to be sacrificed to Palestine?
Dear Brother / Sister,
It is wajib to sacrifice a vowed animal. Sadaqah is sunnah. If you give the equivalent of the money of the animal to be sacrificed to a poor person, it is not regarded as a vow of sacrifice. Therefore, it is necessary to sacrifice the animal.
A person does not have to slaughter the animal himself. He can appoint somebody else by telephone, a letter or another means of communication to have the animal slaughtered on behalf of him.
