"There is no slave who is not used to committing a sin repeatedly." Will you explain this hadith?
"There is a sin that a person does not abandon and that he commits repeatedly until he dies." (Imam Suyuti, Jamius-Saghir, Vol: 2)
- How should we understand this hadith?

Dear Brother / Sister,
It is also possible to translate the hadith in question as follows:
“There is no believing slave who habitually commits a sin from time to time or commits a sin repeatedly until he dies. Doubtlessly, a believer was created in a way that he would be exposed to mischief, as a repentant and forgetful person. When he is reminded, he remembers.” (Suyuti, al-Jamius-Saghir, h. no: 10673)
- This hadith, which was reported by Tabarani, has been regarded as sound. (see Albani, Sahihul-Jamiis-Saghir, h. no: 5735)
- This hadith is a hadith that gives hope to people. In the hadith, sins are not shown as good things; believers who are apt to sins are praised because they repent.
The meaning of the hadith is in compliance with the spirit of the following verse:
“He (Allah) loves those who keep themselves pure and clean.” (al-Baqara, 2/222)
A door of excuse seems to be opened for sins since man’s forgetfulness is underlined.
It means believers do not commit sins deliberately; they commit sins because they forget the penalty due to being affected by their feelings at the time of sinning or due to forgetting Allah’s commandments and prohibitions all of a sudden.
- This hadith can also be evaluated together with the following hadith:
“If you did not sin, Allah would create a community that sinned. They would repent after sinning and Allah would forgive them.” (Zawaid, h. no: 17624)
