Does a person who has vowed to sacrifice an animal have to sacrifice it or sacrifice an animal on the day of eid al-adha first?

The Details of the Question

A person has vowed to sacrifice an animal. As you know eid al-adha is approaching. However, he has enough money to sacrifice only one animal now. Therefore, if he sacrifices the animal he has vowed, he will not be able to sacrifice an animal in eid al-adha. If he sacrifices an animal in eid al-adha, he will be able to sacrifice the animal he has vowed two months later. Which one needs to be sacrificed first?

The Answer

Dear Brother / Sister,

A person for whom it is wajib to sacrifice an animal needs to sacrifice it first and sacrifice the animal he has vowed later. For, sacrifice that is wajib has to be performed on certain days but the animal he has vowed can be sacrificed any time.

However, if it is not wajib for him to sacrifice an animal, he needs to sacrifice the animal he has vowed first.
