What should be done with the money of the animal that was not sacrificed? Can an animal that was not sacrificed in time be sacrificed later?
Should a sacrifice that was missed be performed only on eid al-adha days? Or, can it be performed any time?
Dear Brother / Sister,
Sacrifice can be performed only on the first three days of eid al-adha called "ayyam an-nahr". They are the 10th, 11th and 12th days of the month of Dhul-hijjah. It is better to sacrifice animals on the first day. When these days end, animals cannot be sacrificed. If a poor person has bought an animal to sacrifice but has not sacrificed it, he needs to give it as sadaqah to the poor alive. If a rich has not sacrificed an animal on eid days, he needs to give the equivalent to the poor in cash whether he has bought an animal or not. (al-Ikhtiyar li Talili'l-Mukhtar)
If a person who has the necessary conditions to sacrifice an animal does not sacrifice due to negligence, etc, he needs to give its equivalent to the poor in cash and repent of it and ask forgiveness from Allah.
