Will you explain verse 67 of the chapter of an-Nahl related to dates and grapes? Is it written there that wine is useful?
Dear Brother / Sister,
"And from the fruit of the date-palm and the vine, ye get out wholesome drink, and food: behold in this also is a Sign for those who are wise." (an-Nahl, 16/67)
"Drink" means anything that can be drunk. That is, legitimate drinks like sherbet and juice can be produced from dates and grapes as well as intoxicating drinks. As it is understood from the part of the verse that follows, it is stated that "those who are wise will keep away from the intoxicants that remove the mind."
This verse states that along with nice drinks, an intoxicating substance is also produced from dates and grapes. Thus, it is stated that intoxicants are not regarded as nice drinks and it is implied that they will be prohibited in the future. There are no other verses related to drinks in the period of Makkah.
This is the first verse sent down about intoxicants. Intoxicants were not rendered haram with this verse but it is seen that they are mentioned compared to nice drinks and it is indirectly stated that intoxicants are not nice. The verses that were sent down later prohibited alcoholic drinks/intoxicants.
