Why does Allah give the example that He cannot have children without a wife?
- Allah says in verse 6:101, “How can He have a son when He hath no consort?” Allah can say “kun” if He wants; why does He give this example of not having a child without a wife?
Dear Brother / Sister,
- Allah says be, and it happens. It is also a kind of creation. However, when the word “son” is used, there must also be a spouse. Therefore, the statement “How can He have a son when He hath no consort? He created all things” is used in the verse to state clearly that the attribution of a son is not possible, but creation is in question.
The full verse in question is as follows:
“To Him (Allah) is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: How can He have a son when He hath no consort? He created all things, and He hath full knowledge of all things.” (al-Anam, 6/101)
After the wrong belief of the polytheists in the previous verse, which contradicts the unity and perfection of Allah, is rejected, it is stated that He is free from such ascriptions; and in this verse, the reason for it is explained.
Accordingly, contrary to the claims of the polytheists, it is Allah who created the universe in a unique way, both the beings they attribute to divinity and all visible and invisible beings, the heavens and the earth. In that case, it is extremely meaningless to associate any beings with Him.
- Since Allah addresses humans, it is a necessity of rhetoric to speak in a language they are familiar with, with an example. Allah does not mention His power, but an example that people can easily understand.
- However, if He had accepted a child who was the work of his power, it would have been the Prophet Adam.
- Besides, according to the custom of people, for a person to have a child, he has to be married to the mother of that child. No child in human history, including Jesus, has come into being without a mother except for Adam, who is a product of divine power.
Since a child without a mother is unthinkable, the fact that “He does not even have a wife to be a mother to the child” is stated clearly to eradicate such delusions.
