I must cover up, but what about my career?
Man always looks to the future with dreams and wants to achieve them, but unfortunately, today alone, 350,000 people who dreamt of that future died before reaching it. Tomorrow, another 350,000 people will die. If we could talk to those who died, most of them, except for those who are very ill and awaiting death, would say, just like us, “We had so many dreams for the future; we had so many plans; death came too early for us.” That is, we have no guarantee of reaching that future. Death can come at any moment. Today might be the last day of our life in this world and the first day of our life in the hereafter. So, will we defend ourselves like this in the grave, which is the true future and destiny, and on the Day of Judgment? Will we say, “Lord, I was going to have a career in the world; that’s why I didn’t wear hijab?” What will we do if we are addressed as follows: “Why didn’t you think about your spiritual career as much as you thought about your worldly career?”
See and listen to what our Lord says to those who defend themselves like that on that day:
“And they will cry out therein, “Our Lord, remove us; we will do righteousness - other than what we were doing!” But did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember therein to remember, and the warner had come to you? So taste [the punishment], for there is not for the wrongdoers any helper.”
Suppose you reached the future you desire before death reached you. Know it very well that whatever position, status, or career you will attain in the future, all of those worldly futures are short-lived; the moment you reach them, they will become the past. As for the true future, it is a future that is eternal and does not become the past when you reach it.
When will you reach the future you desire by dressing immodestly? Suppose that you reached it; how do you know that you will cover up when you reach the position or career you desire? When you reach that career, won’t you want to reach a higher one? When you reach it, you will want to reach the next level; and one day death will reach you before you can reach them. Is it worth ruining your heavenly career for a short-lived worldly career? Do you really think a career that prevents you from fulfilling Allah’s command and leads you to the sin of immodesty will truly benefit you?
Yes, the feeling of anxiety about the future is a very powerful emotion. Do you think the Lord, who possesses infinite wisdom, has given you such a strong feeling for the sake of your short earthly future, in which your sustenance is guaranteed? Allah is all-wise; He does not do futile things. He has given you such a strong feeling not for the sake of your short and temporary earthly future, which is guaranteed in terms of sustenance, but for the sake of your long, eternal, and true future, which is not guaranteed for the heedless. Yes, you must think about your future, and therefore, you must now wear hijab and cover up. You must not ruin your career in the hereafter while you are building your career in this short worldly life!
