1 Supertitious about Moles

It is permissible to remove the mole on your face with the permission of a pious and expert doctor or psychologist. When there is no health and psychological problems, it is not permissible to remove it only with the intention of becoming much more beautiful and attractive. You can get some detailed information in regard with plastic surgery below and you will find your answer in the last paragraph.

Having a cosmetic surgery which is known as “beautification operation” or “face-lifting” is generally applied to nose, chin, breasts and face. It is a kind of disaster which encourages by materialistic mentality who gives much importance to the shape and appearance rather than morality and spiritual goodness.

Actually, a right-minded person complies with the body bestowed upon him by the Almighty Allah. To create the organs of the body in their proper places and to place them optimally in the body is enough for a human to be thankful to God. People should be satisfied with their natural figures, specialties and beauties which given to them cost freely and without any effort, and they should not attempt to change their forms in the aim of making their natural form more attractive.
If the matter is evaluated religiously, we encounter with three points:

The first is; the main source of this behavior is the baleful apprehensions. As a matter of fact, when Satan did not prostrate to Adam (peace be upon him) and was expelled from the presence of Allah, he said; “"I will mislead them, and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and to deface the (fair) nature created by Allah…” (1)
Giving ear to this baleful apprehension of Satan, before Islam the Arabs were dying their skins with blue color and they were leaving some hair on their children heads in behalf of their idols.
Our Prophet (PBUH) did not approve the changes done to body by some operations. In the narrations of Bukhari and Muslim it is stated that those, who tattoo or being tattooed, dress their teeth to make thin, plucks their eyebrows, wear periwig and change the form that was given by Allah, just to become beautiful, will be deprived of mercy and grace of Allah. (2)

Both who do these treatments and who have plastic surgery to their faces or other parts of their bodies, are those who disapprove of the arts of Allah and who protest against faith and do not accept the beautifulness and forms which are given to him by Allah. Thus, if there isn’t any serious reason or health problem, having plastic surgery do not regard as permissible.

The second reason why plastic surgery is not regarded as permissible is tyrannizing over the body and inflicting pain on it. Both who tattooed and dressed their teeth to make thin in the past and who have plastic surgery in these days, are those who torment their bodies and put at risk their lives which are given in deposit to them by Allah. Those who have an operation and being narcotized are mostly faced with danger. Whereas Allah forbids such kinds of operations by ordering; “… and make not your own hands contribute to (your) destruction; …” (3)
The third matter is; since this operation is too expensive, it causes a big extravagancy. And what is more is that extravagancy is consumed not for the reality and essence but for appearance and shape. Today in which many people do not have enough money to get rid of their serious diseases, many people waste millions of money and have plastic surgery just to become more beautiful. And wasting money is forbidden.
But if there is an acceptable reason the condition changes. For example, congenital diseases and disabilities such as “cleft lip” and having a physical disability are the exceptional conditions of that matter. Having a defect after burning, traffic accident or any other accidents can be regarded as exceptional conditions too. That is to say, those who have such kinds of defects, if they psychologically feel difficulty and feel inferiority complex, if their personalities are offended and this situation make them low and ugly; having an operation for such a defect is regarded as an excuse for therapy. (4) Therefore there isn’t any drawback for this operation, since Allah doesn’t make religion difficult to us. The meaning of the term “to become beautiful”, which passes in the hadith mentioned above, clarifies the topic. That is to say, if having a plastic surgery and changing the shape of body is not because of the intention of repairing or removing a defect or disturbance, but just to become more beautiful, then it is forbidden. If the intention is to remove a defect and ugliness to render the part to its natural shape, it is permissible.

2 Can Satan repent?

Satan is a kind of jinn but it has a different state. Satan's repenting is something that is contrary to his being a Satan. For, his essence went bad. He lost the property of repenting through his own will and he himself asked from Allah the duty of deviating human beings.

“Satan lost the test eternally because of five reasons:

1. For not accepting his sin,
2. For not regretting,
3. For not condemning his nafs (self) which led him to rebellion,
4. For not repenting,
5. For giving up hope from the Divine Mercy.” (Ibn Hajar, Munabbihat, 73.)

Hence, a believer should always admit his sins, regret his mistakes; criticize his nafs (evil commanding soul) and condemn it; often repent and should not give up hope from Divine Mercy.

3 Is treatment with hypnosis appropriate in terms of our religion? Is treatment with hypnosis useful? Or, is it a product of Satan or imagination?

We do not have any information about our religion prohibiting such a treatment.

The religion of Islam allows all kinds of material and spiritual treatment that are useful for humans and that are not forbidden.

However, there are some issues that people need to be careful about hypnosis, which is a method of treatment that is difficult to control and that can be misused. The person to do it needs to be an expert and a reliable person; that is, he must not misuse it.

You can act in accordance with the advice of an expert and a religious doctor and psychologist regarding the issue.

4 There are hadiths that mention nazar (evil eye). Are there any verses that mention nazar?

The majority of the scholars interpreted the statement "the unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes" in the verses "Thus did his Lord choose him and make him of the Company of the Righteous. And the Unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes when they hear the Message; and they say: "Surely he is possessed" (al-Qalam, 68/50, 51) as "nazar". (Elmalılı M.Hamdi Yazır, Hak Dini Kur'an Dili, VIII, 5305; Ibn Kathir, "Tafsirul Quranil-Azim", VIII, 227).

"Further he said: "O my sons! Enter not all by one gate: enter ye by different gates. Not that I can profit you aught against Allah (with my advice): None can command except Allah: On Him do I put my trust: and let all that trust put their trust on Him." (Yusuf 12/67)

While interpreting the verse above, Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır states the following: "The reason for this advice was to prevent them from being seen all together and from being affected others’ jealousy and evil eye. (Elmalılı, ibid, IV, 2890)

5 What is Kabbalah? Will you give detailed information about Kabbalah?

Even when Hz. Musa (Moses) was alive, Sons of Israel started to make idols similar to those they saw in ancient Egypt and to worship them; it was not difficult for them to deviate further after the death of Hz. Musa. Doubtlessly, it is not possible to say the same thing for all Jews but some of them maintained the idolatrous culture of Egypt; furthermore, they continued the teachings of the Egyptian priests (magicians of Pharaoh); they distorted the religion of Judaism by including those teachings in it.

The teaching transferred from ancient Egypt to Judaism is Kabbalah. Kabbalah spread as an esoteric teaching like the system of the Egyptian priests and it was mainly interested in magic like the Egyptian priests. The famous Jewish researcher, Shimon Halevi describes Kabbalah in his book called "Kabbalah, Tradition of Hidden Knowledge" as follows:

" Practical Kabbalah is one way of dealing with evil. It is a form of magic, the dangerous art of gaining power over the psychological world through the use of symbols."

The most important characteristic of Kabbalah is its close interest in magic. Von Papus emphasizes the relationship between Kabbalah and magic in the book called "Die Kabbalah", which is one of the best known books introducing Kabbalah, as follows:

"Kabbalah's theory is linked with the general theory of magic."

A remarkable aspect of Kabbalah is that it includes a very different narration from the narration of creation in the Torah; it maintains the materialistic view based on the continuation of matter in ancient Egypt.

The Jews took over the esoteric teachings of the ancient Egypt based on magic, ignored all of the prohibitions imposed by the Torah regarding the issue and adopted the rituals of magic of the other idolatrous tribes; thus, Kabbalah flourished as a mystical teaching within Judaism but as contrary to the Torah.

There is a verse indicating this issue in the Quran. Allah informs us that Sons of Israel learned devilish magic from the resources outside their own religion as follows:

"They followed what the evil ones gave out (falsely) against the power of Solomon: the blasphemers Were, not Solomon, but the evil ones, teaching men Magic, and such things as came down at Babylon to the angels Harut and Marut. But neither of these taught anyone (Such things) without saying: "We are only for trial; so do not blaspheme." They learned from them the means to sow discord between man and wife. But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah´s permission. And they learned what harmed them, not what profited them. And they knew that the buyers of (magic) would have no share in the happiness of the Hereafter. And vile was the price for which they did sell their souls, if they but knew!" (al-Baqara, 2/102)

It is stated in the verse that some Jews learned and practiced magic though they knew that they would be harmed in the hereafter. As it is also stated in the verse, those Jews deviated from the shariah that Allah had sent down to them and "sold their souls", that is, renounced their faith by imitating the culture (doctrine of magic) of the pagans.

The truth expressed in this verse also shows the outlines of an important struggle in Jewish history. This struggle is between the prophets that Allah sent to the Jews and the believing Jews who obeyed these prophets, and the deviant Jews who rebelled against the commandments of Allah and tended toward the beliefs and cultures of the pagan tribes around them instead of the sharia of Allah.

What is interesting is that some non-Jews also participated in this struggle. Kabbalah and the pagan doctrines based on it spread not only among the Jews but also among non-Jews.

6 What are the verses about Angels, Jinn, and Devils?

It is difficult to give all the verses on the issue because there are also verses that indicate them, though not directly. Let us quote some verses about the issue:

VERSES ABOUT ANGELS

"And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic]." And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah . And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew." (Surah al-Baqarah, 2/102)

"Also (forbidden are) married women—except (female) captives in your possession. This is Allah’s commandment to you. Lawful to you are all beyond these—as long as you seek them with your wealth in a legal marriage, not in fornication. Give those you have consummated marriage with their due dowries. It is permissible to be mutually gracious regarding the set dowry. Surely Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise." (Surah an-Nisa, 4/24)

"And they said, ´(If the Prophet is true and sincere in his claim) Why has not an angel been sent down to (help) him?´ But if We had sent down an angel the matter would have been decided, then they would not have been respited." (Surah al-An’am, 6/8, 9)

"Say, `I do not say to you that with me are the treasures of Allâh, nor do I know the unseen; and I do not say to you (that) I am an angel. I indeed follow only what is revealed to me.´ Say, `Can a blind person and one gifted with sight be alike?´ Will you not even then give thought?" (Surah al-An’am, 6/50)

"Thus did We show Abraham the kingdom of the heavens and the earth that he might be of those possessing certainty." (Surah al-An’am, 6/75)

"Then Satan tempted them in order to expose what was hidden of their nakedness. He said, “Your Lord has forbidden this tree to you only to prevent you from becoming angels or immortals." (Surah al-Araf, 7/20)

"They will excuse themselves to you when you go back to them. Say: Urge no excuse, by no means will we believe you; indeed Allah has informed us of matters relating to you; and now Allah and His Messenger will see your doings, then you shall be brought back to the Knower of the unseen and the seen, then He will inform you of what you did." (Surah at-Tawbah, 9/94)

"And say (unto them): Act! Allah will behold your actions, and (so will) His messenger and the believers, and you will be brought back to the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, and He will tell you what you used to do." (Surah at- Tawbah, 9/105)

"Perhaps you (O Prophet) may wish to give up some of what is revealed to you and may be distressed by it because they say, “If only a treasure had been sent down to him, or an angel had come with him!” You are only a warner, and Allah is the Trustee of All Affairs." (Surah Hud, 11/12)

"I do not say to you that I possess Allah’s treasuries or know the unseen, nor do I claim to be an angel, nor do I say that Allah will never grant goodness to those you look down upon. Allah knows best what is hidden within them. (If I did) then I would truly be one of the wrongdoers." (Surah Hud, 11/31)

“When she heard about their gossip, she invited them and set a banquet for them. She gave each one a knife, then said (to Joseph), “Come out before them.” When they saw him, they were so stunned (by his beauty) that they cut their hands, and exclaimed, “Good God! This cannot be human; this must be a noble angel!" (Surah Yusuf, 12/31)

"And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance to Adam; they made obeisance but Iblis (did it not). He was of the jinn, so he transgressed the commandment of his Lord. What! would you then take him and his offspring for friends rather than Me, and they are your enemies? Evil is (this) change for the unjust." (Surah al-Kahf, 18/50)

“Allah will say: Enter into fire among the nations that have passed away before you from among jinn and men; whenever a nation shall enter, it shall curse its sister (evil-doing community), until when they have all come up with one another into it; the last of them shall say with regard to the foremost of them: Our Lord! these led us astray therefore give them a double chastisement of the fire. He will say: Every one shall have double but you do not know. “ (Surah al-Araf, 7/38)
